STICK IT UP PROSTATE CANCER Ride
The following is an email from Graeme (Skin) Skinner in relation to the E.J. Whitten foundation Prostate Cancer ride……
Just a quick note on behalf of the EJ Whitten Foundation, to thank you for supporting the "Stick It Up Prostate Cancer Ride" on Sunday 17th February.....
We feel it was a great success especially considering the first one is always the hardest, and we trust you enjoyed the event...and more importantly increased your awareness of Prostate Cancer and the need for you or your family and/or friends, in the designated risk age group, to ensure you/they get a prostate check.
We had in excess of 200 bikes and 300 people, raising in excess of $7,000...With your continued support we look forward to this event growing each year....
We are aware there are improvements that can be made and whilst it's not planned to change the basic format for next year, changes that are being considered include:
Whilst 12 months away the potential date for next year's event is Sunday 22nd February 2009 - subject to availability of event venue.....If you know of any major motorcycle or other relevant event that date would clash with your early advice would be appreciated.
We trust that you enjoyed the inaugural event and again thank you for your support and please make sure you get your Prostate checked, remembering a Blood Test can be taken and also checks out other vital health issues...
Don't delay make an appointment with your doctor, not knowing will not make this disease disappear.”

Hi all, another great month has come and gone, summer is almost gone and we are starting to think about the cooler months. God I hate winter.
The people heading to Townsville are all starting to get excited (John is off tap already!) Keep your motor running Johnny!
Some of us may know Ron Balls. Unfortunately, last month lost his life whilst out doing what he loved most and that is riding. An untimely end to a great bloke. Ron was out riding when he went down and was struck from behind by one of his mates. Please remember to keep a safe space between yourselves on a group or club ride
On a happier note is the fact that our club continues to go from strength to strength with more members coming on board and our club keeps growing and Ulysses in general, and I understand that last month we (the Ulysses Club) signed its 50,000th member and that is quite impressive in anyone’s terms.
Ali and I are starting to get into marriage mode and she is running around making all the usual arrangements for flowers, dresses, invites etc. I just try and keep out of the way. It is a very stressful time for women, or so I am told (that should get me in the poo!!)
I would like to take the time to those members who go out of their way to visit fellow members who are unwell or in hospital. Fantastic effort and I am sure that it is a great comfort to those who are ill or on the mend. Well done guys ‘n gals.
With the elections coming up in May, I have decided to stand again as your President (if someone nominates me!) I hope that others put their hand up for this position and others on the Committee. It can be very rewarding to be involved in our club in any Committee position so I urge you to seek
nomination for any position that you feel suits you. The time commitment is not great, but the experience is fantastic and very satisfying.
Until next month, safe riding and enjoy our club and all the friendship that brings.

TO WOOMERA TRIP 4/11/84 to 5/11/84
Kawasaki GPz 900R
Yes, had two weeks off again and decided to ride up to Ayers Rock and Alice Springs for a little run…no special preperations…Bike OK…took Sleeping Bag, ground sheet, wet weather gear and camera. Just the standard tools, not even a pump. ( that’s confidence in a bike … OR…silly…??? )
Sunday 4/11/84
Left Altona at 0400 on Sunday 4/11/84 ( Odometer 16380 km ) weather mild and pitch black..in fact I rode only 4 km when I had to stop and put on my waterproofs as it started to rain quite heavily.
Then on to Ballarat Road and headed west… needless to say, as I got to the Pentland Hills it became very foggy and cold. The wind and rain slowed me down quite a bit. I got a bit of a fright when I passed a stationary Wombat with about 5 feet. The rain continued…on the other side of Beaufort I headed into some roadworks at a fast rate of knots and I still don’t know how I got through this very greasy dirt area OK. The rain persisted to Ararat and then cleared a bit. At Horsham I had my first scheduled fuel stop and coffee break. Then on to Bordertown. More coffee and lubricated the chain. On to Coonalpin for petrol and a bit of a spell. Then to Tailem Bend and via the Adelaide Hills where again it started to rain and became very windy as well.
North to Two Wells, Port Pierie and Port Augusta. After leaving Adelaide the weather cleared and became quite hot and windy. Now not a cloud to be seen. After a soft drink and some junk food at Port Augusta headed off to Woomera where I arrived at 1615… ( 1229 km )
Stopped for petrol and a couple of stubbies with the local mechanic ( he shouted ). The country here looks like the ‘ arse end ‘ of the world. Very hot and blowing a gale across the barren rock strewn flat country. I asked him about the road conditions ahead and was told that the next 100 km was ok but then the next 400 plus km not so good. In fact he gave me three propositions :-
I spent quite a bit of time talking with him and other locals about various things and as I did not have any spares, not even a pump or tyre levers, I decided on Proposition No 3.
I rang home and told my wife of my decision. I felt like a whimp, but still I think I made the right decision because if you can’t help yourself in the outback you shouldn’t be there at all.
I took some pictures then headed back to Port Augusta for the usual petrol , chain lube, food and drink. Shortly after headed off to Port Pierie. It was still very hot and windy and decided not to camp out but paid $ 14.00 for a cabin with a shower and TV and a good bed and I slept in comfort.
Today travelled 1497 km
Monday 5/11/84
Next morning, Monday 5/11, packed up and left for Port Wakefield at 0630 for breakfast and fuel. Then on to Tailem Bend via the Adelaide Hills for more coffee and fuel then on to Bordertown.
Just outside Tailem Bend was overtaken by a Qld. Reg. FJ 1100 sitting on between 180 to 200 km/h. Good enough for him is good enough for me. Sat right behind him, with plenty to spare. After a while of this, it seemed like only minutes but was actually about 100 km, he stopped at a servo and I never saw him again.
I then had my scheduled stop at Bordertown, then on to Horsham for lunch and a nice cold stubbie, fuel and chain lube. Still very warm and windy.
After this break headed home via Ballarat etc and arrived home at Altona at 1530
The Odometer now reading 18831 km.
Conclusion..
After my 14420 km run ‘ around the block ‘ ( Australia ) 28/10 to 11/11/83 on a Suzuki GZX 1100EZ, I wondered how my new GPz 900R would perform on a reasonable run.
I am now of the opinion ( since getting used to the more sporty riding position ) that one can tour on the Kawasaki just as well as on the big Suzuki.
After this two day run I had no aches or any other side effects and the bike never missed a beat.

This months’ HORRORSCOPE…
Capricorn
You are conservative and afraid of taking chances. You don’t do much of anything and are lazy. There has never been a Capricorn of any importance. You should avoid standing still for long periods of time because pigeons love crapping on Capricorns.
Australia seeks fatter mailmen
The following article was sent to me by T2. I wonder what he is trying to tell me????
SYDNEY (Reuters) - Australia's postal service has increased the maximum weight for mailmen and women by 15 kg (33 pounds) in an attempt to attract more "posties", local media reported on Tuesday.
Australia Post had a weight limit of 90 kgs (198 pounds) for "posties" because its 110cc motorcycles had a safe working limit of 130kg (286 pounds) -- that's 40kg (88 pounds) for letters and up to 90 kgs for mailmen and women fully clothed.
But after talks with motorcycle manufacturer Honda it was agreed the bikes could safely carry a "postie" weighing 105 kgs (231 pounds), said Sydney's the Daily Telegraph newspaper.
But the "posties" will only carry 25 kgs of mail.
The union representing mailmen and women said the 90 kg limit had caused recruitment headaches for Australia Post, but the company denied it had staffing problems.
"Testing found a rise in rider weight up to a maximum of 105 kgs would not have any significant effect on the stability, handling or safety of their 110 cc motorcycle," an Australia Post spokesman told the newspaper.
"By raising it from 90 to 105 kilograms means there will be other people that can now apply," he said.
